We had never really considered getting a dog backpack before, but after consultation r.e. Franks running away problem with a dog trainer, he recommended we use one with dead weight to help tire him out.
We do not really do this, but on longer hikes, especially those with an overnight stop, we have found it excellent, as it allows the energetic hound to carry his own food, coat, bowl and any other accessories.
We chose the EzyDog backpack, as we found that it was of the best construction, best comfort to the dog and as it has an integrated harness, it is great for longer walks.
Our top tip: as the harness secures the pack so well, on canoe trips, we put polystyrene blocks in the packs to make a makeshift-dog flotation aid.
